- Description: In this shot, my friend (for reference, we call him "Big Jim") is surprised by just how friendly the biggest fish in the ocean can be while snorkeling off the Kona Coast, Hawaii. The oversized animals often get very curious, swimming back and forth carefully investigating each snorkeler and sticking around long after the swimmers have gotten cold and left the water. Whale sharks can grow upwards of 35 feet long but, unless you are a plankton, they are completely harmless. Thus, Jim’s dilemma depicted here is less terror and more inertia.
