Red Osier Dogwood With Flowing River
- Title: Red Osier Dogwood With Flowing River
- State/Province/Region: Oregon
- Country: United States
- Nearest Town: John Day
- Best Season: Spring
- Description: Hiking along the John Day River in early spring is a sublime experience. The river is high, the current is strong and everything is waking up from a long winter's nap. This shot was taken in the John Day River Wild and Scenic area. The area is wild, undeveloped and pristine. An excellent hiking adventure.
Many people see a cloudscape as the background and wonder how the sky could be that color green. But in fact, it is a flowing river and long exposure combining to create the whispy texture.
I also like the way the red stems of the native Dogwood, contrast with the flowing river. The green color comes from the spring growth of the surrounding area, as well the river containing large amounts of organic matter.
