- Description: Upon arriving at Clubhouse Beach in Everglades National Park during a backpacking trip in April, 2013, I was immediately drawn to this dead tree. This tree, like many trees in this section of the Everglades, was probably killed and mostly stripped of limbs when Hurricane Wilma came through in 2005. Certainly, some other campers may have helped strip it further for firewood, but Wilma did most of the work in 2005. At twilight, with the tide moving out everything was peaceful (except for the incessant bugs) and I wanted to capture the scene as such. I framed the dead tree up to dominate the scene, but included some of the shore and another live tree in the background because I thought it made the image feel more alive and dynamic. I then used a long exposure to blur the few waves that were sloshing about in Florida Bay.
