- Description: My husband and I were one of the last group of cars allowed to park near the lake. We were informed that we would be asked to leave soon as the government was shutting the park down. We arrived at 7:00am and joined a multitude of other photographers waiting for the light. The great light didn't arrive until slightly before 10am (you get to sleep in if you photograph this location in the fall). A lot of folks left but many of us stayed for the show. We passed the time talking to other photographers, checking out new equipment and watching the moose family antics on the hillside. We'd no sooner finished the last of the photos when we were asked to leave by a park ranger because the gates were closing...and the potties. As she walked further to notify hikers, we stayed longer and said goodbye to "the bells" and were thankful we got the photos we came for... and got to pee before they closed the potties. We drove out slowly past the many hikers and bikers who ignored the gate closure and were coming up anyway to enjoy the beautiful 70 degree day. We could still hear the grumbling on our way back to Aspen.
