- Title: Bacterial Rainbow
- State/Province/Region: Wyoming
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: old faithful Inn
- Nearest Town: West Yellowstone
- Best Season: Summer
- Description: Early in the morning we had risen to have an opportunity to watch wolves we had heard about. It began raining and the rain kept going for a few hours. We had stopped at a pullout to decide what to do. We had not checked the thermal features so far on this trip so we decided to head towards old faithful and the midway geyser basin. Once we arrived at grand prismatic the rain stopped instantly and the sky opened up giving way to blue skies and nice white clouds. They contrasted beautifully with the vivid colors of the hot spring beneath. These vivid colors are caused by the bacteria that thrive in these pools. Many would assume that all bacteria is disgusting, but in this case, I found it to be breathtaking and surreal.
