- Description: This morning in Canyonlands National Park is perhaps one of my favorite memories as a photographer. I was hoping to get the classic Mesa Arch at sunrise shot but was unpleasantly surprised when I arrived at the gates to the park to find the roads closed due to nearly a foot of snow the night before. Rather than turn back, my wife and I took a nap in the car and awoke as the gates were reopening. We were one of the first and very few cars to enter the park. Having never been to the Mesa Arch, we made the short hike just to check it out regardless of the fact that I knew we missed out on that fabulous orange glow at sunrise. We were greeted by this magical scene. No talk of the latest gear, no questions about my camera setup, no trophy shot at sunrise. Only the sweet sound of deafening silence, and a pristine, untouched, and perhaps unphotographed landscape before us.
- Gear: Pentax 67, 45mm lens, Lee Filters 2 stop Grad. ND, Fuji Velvia 50
