Photo Details

  • Title: Torch Lake Twilight Off The Dock
  • State/Province/Region: Michigan
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Torch Lake
  • Nearest Town: Alden
  • Description: Long exposure reflecting twilight scene at Torch Lake.
  • Brief Directions: Take 72 east from Traverse City, MI to Rapid City Rd. NW and follow to the town of Alden.
  • Notes: Two items of gear were important here since I did not use HDR processing. The .9 lee filter allowed me to even the light between the lake and the sky. However, the tripod, as always for me, was crucial to keep the camera steady for a long exposure to allow enough light for the exposure I wanted to smooth out and lighten the water while also capturing the twilight sky and colorful reflections on the lake.
  • Gear: Canon EOS 40D, Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 lens, manfrotto tripod w/ ball head, lee .9 split ND filter
