Photo Details

  • Title: Rainbow Lorikeet
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Australia
  • Nearest Area: Blue Mountains
  • Nearest Town: Hazelbrook
  • Description: A Rainbow Lorikeet at Hazelbrook, New South Wales
  • Brief Directions: Hazelbrook is 90 kilometers west of Sydney, NSW
  • Notes: This shot came about under unusual circumstances. I had been out photographing some landscapes in the local area. When I came home I decided to go onto my back verandah and change some settings on my camera. As I was doing so this bird landed on my verandah railing. As quietly as possible, I changed the ISO rating to its maximum, and I got in a few quick shots. This image was taken in failing light, as there was a storm approaching, and it was hand held. It was a case of everything to the max - maximum ISO, maximum local length, and maximum aperture ie f2.8. Without the constant f2.8 in this lens, this image would have been impossible.
