Samsung GX-1S

Samsung introduces its first digital SLR

Samsung GX-1S 1 Designed in conjunction with Pentax, the camera allows use of the Pentax KAF mount for a wide selection of fully compatible lenses.

2 It features a 2.5-inch TFT LCD screen with 2.1-megapixel resolution for a large and bright screen for playback or navigating menu-based controls. The large screen makes it easier to evaluate images, especially when confirming focus.

3 The camera features rugged construction with its stainless-steel chassis, but still weighs only 1.1 pounds, a big plus when traveling light is essential.

4 A depth-of-field preview control is included, an uncommon high-end feature for a consumer-level D-SLR. This feature is important for evaluating depth of field for landscape and close-up photography.

5 In addition to a 16-segment metering system, the camera includes center-weighted and spot metering for flexibility in handling any lighting situation.

6 Three-stop exposure bracketing helps to ensure you come home with the best exposure, especially when shooting under challenging lighting conditions. Although multi-segment metering does a good job, it’s not infallible, making bracketing an important tool to ensure accurate exposures. 7 A bright viewfinder with 95% coverage allows easy viewing, even under low light. This is a great benefit when composing at dusk or dawn.

8 The camera supports both RAW and JPEG file formats, offering photographers maximum control over the color, contrast and tonality of their digital images.

9 With a top shutter speed of 1/4000 sec., and ISO sensitivity settings ranging from ISO 200 to 3200, the camera can handle a range of lighting conditions.

10 Three modes of white-balance bracketing help ensure color accuracy, especially under fast-changing light. This helps reduce the need to labor in Photoshop to get the color values right.
