Nikon Announces Wide-Angle PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED Lens

MELVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2008) – Nikon, Inc., today introduced the new PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED lens, the latest in a series of lenses that are equipped with a tilt/shift mechanism that enables photographers the flexibility to effectively manipulate perspective, distortion and focus. Canon Launches Two New Telephoto Lenses at PMA 2008

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., January 23, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announced the launch of two new telephoto lenses for use with its EOS SLR cameras: the EF200mm f/2L IS USM*/** and the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM*/**, the world’s longest focal length lens with an Optical Image Stabilizer system.*** The Company, which exhibited prototypes of the lenses during PhotoPlus Expo in New York last October, is launching them at the PMA tradeshow (booth E101) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 31 to February 2.

In Memoriam—Henry Froehlich

Endearing. Friend to all. Dedicated. Gentleman. Honest as the day is long. These are just some of the descriptions that come to mind at the contemplation of the passing of Henry Froehlich, the retired Chairman of the MAC Group (formerly Mamiya America Corporation). To borrow a phrase from Tom Brokaw, we like to think of Henry as an influential member of the Greatest Generation of the photo industry.

Canon Introduces EOS Rebel XSi

Canon Releases New Compact Cameras

Canon has expanded its PowerShot Digital ELPH and A-Series camera lineups. The pocket-sized, 8-megapixel PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH has an advanced Optical Image Stabilization system, Genuine Face Detection Technology and a Digic III imaging processor. The A-Series includes three easy-to-use, feature-rich models: the optically image stabilized 8-megapixel PowerShot A590 IS, the 8-megapixel PowerShot A580, and the creatively color-keyed 7.1-megapixel PowerShot A470 digital cameras.

Pentax Announces New D-SLRs

GOLDEN, CO. Sir Edmund Hillary, 1919 - 2008

Sir Edmund Hillary was a beekeeper, not a photographer. The New Zealander sealed his place in history when he became the first man to climb Everest, the world’s highest mountain, in 1953. Widely considered one of the 20th century’s greatest explorers, Hillary’s unwavering spirit of adventure and commitment to the environment are part of what defines our mission here at Outdoor Photographer. The late Galen Rowell, famed nature photographer and OP columnist, knew Hillary and mentioned him in his columns. While conquering Everest is perhaps Hillary’s defining moment, he went onto lead many other expeditions to the far corners of the world while devoting himself to a variety of environmental causes and humanitarian efforts.
