Duggal Visual Solutions Launches Green Initiative
New York, NY—Duggal Visual Solutions, Inc., the world-renowned photo-imaging company, has launched Duggal EcoImaging, a comprehensive sustainability initiative to set a new industry standard by adopting environmental practices in the printing industry.
Duggal EcoImaging, includes an entirely new line of 20 sustainable products that are biodegradable-alternatives to standard industry materials. These materials range from Forest Stewardship Council certified (FSC) fine art papers to biodegradable grand format materials that can meet different clientele’s visual needs including fine art, retail, commercial and outdoor media applications.
Duggal is dedicated to ensuring that their EcoImaging products match the standards of quality the Duggal brand has represented for over 40 years. After analyzing the unique requirement of different industries, Duggal has assembled a selection of high quality papers, fabrics, vinyls, mounting boards, and inks that significantly reduce the impact on the environment.
“This is an exciting moment,” said Baldev Duggal who founded Duggal Visual Solutions in 1963. “There is awareness on the client side and research on the supply side to make this environmental effort possible. We are proud that we’re able to take the lead on this in our industry.”
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s message of sustainability, Duggal has launched this green initiative with eight sustainable billboards installed through Manhattan featuring moving messages from Gandhi. The billboards, printed by Duggal on EcoFlex, EcoMesh, and EcoBacklit material feature serene photographs of natural landscapes by Antonio Vizcaino and inspiring words from Mahatma Gandhi, considered by many to be one of the first modern environmentalists. The launch coincides with The Satya Graha Forum, a citywide event-series focused on Gandhi’s principles of conservation and nonviolence.
“Until now, the photo-imaging industry has not been associated with sustainability,” Duggal said. “This is a step in the right direction to build industry-wide awareness and drive a market for a new generation of eco-friendly materials, without sacrificing the quality that has made Duggal a leader in professional graphics.”
In addition to Duggal’s new product line, printer, and practices Duggal is teaming with renowned green architects to implement solutions in his 50,000-square-foot production facility under construction in the Navy Yard. The project, called The Duggal Greenhouse, is envisioned as a state of the art production and R&D laboratory meant to lead the way for industrial spaces to become green in NYC.
Most billboards and outdoor signage is made with PVC, which takes over thousands of years to biodegrade. New York City sees millions of square feet of signage sent to landfills each year. Duggal’s EcoImaging signage begins an effort to reduce the environmental impact of signage and print media with a veritable synthesis of ecoinks and ecosubstrates producing beautiful images with far less environmental impact.
