Sigma Student Photography Scholarship
Winner is announced
Ronkonkoma, NY, Jan. 20, 2010 – Sigma Corporation of America (www.sigmaphoto.com), a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, is pleased to announce the winner of the fourth annual, Sigma-sponsored Nature’s Best Photography Students photography contest.
Sally Bornbusch, an 18-year-old college freshman studying biology and fine arts, is the grand prize winner of the student magazine’s most recent photo contest. Her winning image captured the reflections of two sandhill cranes in a body of water at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Bornbusch’s winning photo and description, and the images submitted by other contest runners-up, can be viewed at www.naturesbeststudents.com.
“We received hundreds of outstanding photographs from young adults from all over the world, so this is always a difficult decision, but Sally’s image struck our judges as both highly artistic and exceptionally composed,” said Gabby Salazar, editor of the publication.
Sigma Corporation of America sponsors Nature’s Best Photography Students’ twice-yearly photography contests by donating a Sigma lens of the winner’s choice valued at $650. This endeavor, like the Sigma Corporation of America Scholarship that was recently announced for high school seniors, is part of company’s mission to support young photographers.
“At Sigma, we pride ourselves on using the best technologies available, and we’re especially proud of the fact that our product line is accessible to and affordable for photographers of all kinds,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, general manager of Sigma Corporation of America. “We feel it’s important to nurture young photo enthusiasts by supporting their efforts and helping them showcase and continue their work through contests of this nature.”
Submissions for the next Nature’s Best Photography Students photo contest will be accepted through March 1; Sigma’s scholarship contest submissions are being accepted until Feb. 15. Students can submit images for the photo contest online at www.naturesbeststudents.com/takeaction; applications, essays and photo submissions for the Sigma Corporation of America Scholarship cash prize of $5,000 and $1,000 in Sigma gear can be submitted via the Web at http://www.sigmaphoto.com/scholarship/.
