Waiting for a gust of wind created a more dynamic image.
Spring is my favorite time of year. The sunshine, wonderful flowers, all the beautiful new plants growing. The fun in being outside without the heavy winter gear, and before the bugs really get started.
While exploring along the Oak Leaf Trail, part of the parks system here in Franklin, I found a great spot with a number of these red, Prairie Trilliums. The deep red of the flower amongst all the green was quite the sight.
The mayapple plants, starting to grow here in early April, have an interesting structure. The leaves like capes around the stems and the flower buds on top. Later, the buds drop below the leaves which grow to be umbrella like. Or like palm trees.
Amongst the earliest of spring blooms, the bloodroot plant really stands out against the dead, grey stuff of last year. They open during the day and close up for the evening with the leaves curled around the stem.
