The end of another scorcher...
I was wearing a headlamp that includes a red light, which I turned on the old, closed bridge structure to get that color there.
I am doing a 365 project this year, and June I made a second project to capture a sunset every night. It really paid off! The light in June after a hot summer day and afternoon storms, produces some of the best color and light in the evening sky.
A chilly and windy evening soon gives way to warm gap light that fired up the rim of the canyon and providing some warmth to those taking in the view. This happened to be one of the most dramatic light shows I have witnessed in the canyon.
While some people may try to avoid the summer at the grand canyon due to the heat and extremely high visitation on the south rim. I found it to be the perfect time to go. After waiting for a few hours for the sunset I had found a spot overlooking the...
I got up early to photograph the sunrise. It was really cool how the sun changed shape as it rose up over the ocean. The colors were intense.
All I can say is it pays to get up early – and do some scouting in advance! The day before this was taken, I had stumbled around this area for hours – searching for just the right looking polygons. I found this area about a mile out, and marked it on...
I had been watching these two Great Blue Herons coming back and forth from their nest on and off all evening, and with each landing, they would check each other out (probably to make sure the wrong bird didn’t land on their nest). Well, I was d...
Late August, Canyonlands National Park, 4:30 AM at the Mesa Arch parking lot. It’s empty! If you’ve never been to Mesa Arch, you might be thinking, “Well, duh! 4:30 in the morning is insane! Of course it’s empty!” Ahh, but this is a real hot...
The Weeki Wachee River is fed with 11 million gallons of fresh water every day by the spring of the same name. As you move upriver from the mangrove delta where the river meets the sea the river changes color repeatedly as small surface stream and...
Hot sun, long day, salty water, cold, sweet drink. Perfect.
The dragon fly was photographed at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in DC. The garden blooms during summer and is the best time to observe aquatic plants and the insects that visit them.
Its been a while Seattle hasn't rain on New Years Eve and New Year's day. The weather was quite splendid, clear sky and dry. Although it was a bit cold but I'd rather prefer cold and dry than wet. Saturday 1/01/11 was also sunny, couldn't resist...
This is a winter sunrise over a field near my home.
My attempt at preserving the sights of fall season, with its beauty.
As I approach it along the trail it is difficult to notice the arch as its shape blends in well with the background of red rocks the rubbles beneath it. When I notice a slice of sky shows up I realized how thin the arch is.
this young girl was blowing bubbles but the real shot I felt was to capture her face as she blew the bubbles which reflected anticipation and patience
Under midday sun the arch cast a shadow under which people are resting after a good hike. Including people shows the majestic size of the arch.

Loved this sunset. i composed the shot with the ship out of focus to give it more mood.
With big surf comes great chance to capture dramatic imagery. 2 waves colliding as the sun sets along the historic Na Pali coast on Kauai's north shore.
With only a small window of time each year to capture such a photo the light gods were on my side as the setting sun illuminated this waterfall as it entered the ocean.
