I wanted to really accentuate the textures in the sand, so I got up early and ventured onto the sand dunes. The light was strong and so was the detail.

I have several tegu lizards. This is a portion of skin shed by one of them. Shooting it outside, it picked up the green color of the grasses behind it.
The ski area had been working on replacing some of the underground culverts and there was a large black mud puddle. It was beginning to freeze, and the leaves and ferns embedded in it gave a sort of La Brea effect.

This picture was taken at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, the lowest point point in North America. Repeated freezing/thawing/evaporation cycles shapes the salt flats into this unique terrain.

Caught this spider wider whilst looking for flowers at lunch time. It was back light with leaves forming the bokeh. I added a little fill flash and toned in lightroom.
