Photo Details

  • Title: Snacking Cedar Waxwing
  • State/Province/Region: Washington
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Cheney
  • Nearest Town: Cheney
  • Description: This cedar waxwing was a rare shot since it actually landed in the tree in my front yard days before my mother's funeral. I live in a rural area and part of the reason I live here is because of the wildlife; however, I've never seen the event that happened that day - one tree completely filled with these beautiful birds.
  • Brief Directions: Cheney is outside of Spokane, Washington and although rural, is easy to find. There are many dirt roads, hidden marshes, and lost ponds filled with wildlife that few know about. For that reason, I find the area beautiful, full of life, and one of the best places around to take photographs.
  • Notes: I tend to trek on animal trails as close to sunset or sunrise as I can. During bright daylight, I use a cover to block some of the sun and I do my best to stay away from other humans - that's what makes some of the places in Washington so unique and beautiful. They seem almost untouched by progress and technology.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Gear: Canon Rebel Xt
