Brief Directions: To find the trail head from Cauterets at 900m , take Avenue du Mamelon Vert till the western end where it crosses with Avenue Charles Thierry. There will be a trail head leading up that switchbacks for a little bit and then splits upward or Southward. Take the straight path South. In about 2km you will reach a road with some development, continue south on the road for about 200 meters and pick up the GR 10 trail to the west of the road near the foot of the falls and the Rumatology center. Follow the trail west and climb about 450m in 3.5 km until you get to Pont Espana where the trail will split at a popular view point and lunch spot (there is a well stocked restaurant for those of you who need a break or a cold ice cream). Cascade des Ceriest will be along this route shortly before Pont Espana. At the junction there will be a bridge to the left of the big falls. Take this bridge to continue South on the GR 10 trail. You will climb another 230m in about 2km to reach the Northern end of Lac De Gaube. There is a restaurant on this side of the lake. If you would like to get a way from the crowds, walk around the western side of the lake (the Eastern path only goes half way and stops). There are good resting spots on the shores of the Southern lake.
Best Season: Summer
Description: I approached the beautiful Cascade du Ceriest as the sun was hanging on the horizon of the high Pyrenees. There was a thick fog cover for most of our hike down the mountain and just as I was leaving this spot to continue down, the sun broke through and created a beautiful shot.
