Seattle Before The Storm

  • Title: Seattle Before The Storm
  • State/Province/Region: Washington
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Queen Anne Hill
  • Nearest Town: Seattle
  • Brief Directions: Storm approaching Seattle, Washington from the Pacific Ocean and Strait of Juan Defuca,
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Description: This photo was taken as a major storm front was approaching from the west. We had a sunny day and I knew that the storm would hit soon and waited patiently for its approach. I set up my tripod and gear about one hour before and waited for the right moment. The temperature was in the low 30's and the wind was blowing about 20 knots. As the storm made it over the Olympic mountain range a crossed Puget Sound I was hoping for it to pass just south of the city for best effct. I got lucky and it did as I hoped. I got the shot and after initial examination I realized it would look great in black and white. I used Adobe CS5 with Nik Silver Efex-Pro 2 software to make the conversion to black and white and this was the final result. I had just the right amount of sun left peeking throug a hole in the clouds to iluminate the City yet great contrast with the mix of cloud formations. Ten minutes later the sky was black and it was raining hard. Timing, proper light, and a little luck make for a great photograph.
