  • Description: Along the Honopi'ilani Highway there are groves of Kiawe trees that line the shoreline. The daily high tide brings the ocean to the doorstep of the trees that resist the onrush of the sea. However, over the course of decades and weakened by old age the Kiawe eventually succumb to the power of the sea. The photo "Morning Rush" was taken during the morning rising tide shortly after the sun rose from the east. The low island on the horizon is the island of Lanai.
