Benniuex is a small town in the Luberon area in the province of Provence.
We visited in the Fall and had a great time seeing the area move from summer into Fall. There were few tourist, but the French exceeded our expectations in terms of their willingness to help and their devotion to their food, wine, and history. Spending time in Provence in the off-season gives you a much richer sense and appreciation for the daily lives of the rural French.
We stayed at a 16th century restored fortified farmhouse in Bonnieux that was surrounded by grape vines, cherry trees, and rows of lavendar plants. It was mid-October and most of the grapes had already been picked, but those on the bottom of the vines were yet to be picked. The colors of the grape leaves, row after row, was stuning.
