Pfeiffer Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Big Sur, California coastline. Not only is it beautiful but it contains the "Pfeiffer Arch", a giant archway cut out of the giant rock just off the shore of the beach. During the winter months of December and early January the setting sun is perfectly aligned with the arch that it shines through and creates a "spotlight". As waves enter the arch and splash against the rock they leave a mist in the air which picks up the setting sun. This spotlight effect draws hundreds of photographers each year. I arrived hours before sunset, setup, and waited. As the sunset peaked I managed to capture an incoming wave crashing off the rocks and also catching the light of the sunset.
