Description: I waited a whole year to return to this spot after first discovering these gorgeous blooming aloe plants above the iconic Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA. Although it looks artificially manipulated, these blossoms do have an uncanny ability to channel light. I am not going to pretend to know the biomechanics of this phenomenon but they have a luminescence that is fascinating to see when the sun is low and the light strikes the tubular flower petals. This is a single shot, 60 second exposure. Amazingly the wind was dead calm, allowing the blossoms to be in focus over such a long exposure.
