We had to stand behind a fence to shoot these birds. In my opinion a minimum lens is a 70-200mm. You will also need a good tripod and serious warm cloths. Shooting in manual is a must. These birds are very white, and bright against the snow. This is the only way I was able to capture the definition of there feathers, etc.
This is a picture of a Japanese Red Crowned Crane. These magnificent birds are about 6 feet tall with equally as large wings, a bright red strip across there head, primarily white and black bodies. Taking photos of these birds is a wonderful experience. They fly in so slow and graceful. Then they do this spectacular dance that is awesome.
