- Description: The Milky Way rise over Indian Rock Arch in Yosemite National Park. Wanting to shoot the Milky Way for some time I scouted and calculated the perfect timing to capture this scene I had envisioned months in advance. On a new moon night in the summer I headed off to Indian Rock Arch. The outlook that day seemed dire as the sky became cloudier as it got later in the day. At sunset I was treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets but it seemed like my opportunity of capturing the Milky Way was disappearing. I decided to stick around and wait it out. My patience was rewarded as the clouds began to part. I snapped away shot after shot waiting for a large enough hole in the clouds. I finally caught my break as the Milky Way showed itself through a large gap in the clouds. I light painted the Arch using a manually set flash. Some clouds remained near the horizon and were lit up from the light pollution from Yosemite Valley. Merely minutes after I snapped this shot the clouds rolled back in and the show was over. All it took was that one minute window for me to capture this shot.
