Photo Details

  • Title: Pat Springs Camp
  • State/Province/Region: California
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Bottcher's Gap Campground
  • Nearest Town: Carmel
  • Description: I was napping after the hike in and awoke right as the sun was dropping behind the hill. The hill peak on the left behind the tree is Pico Blanco. In the valley to the right of Pico Blanco along the coast is Point Sur Lighthouse which was visible at night.
  • Brief Directions: Go to Bottcher's Gap Campground at the end of Palo Colorado Canyon Road south of Carmel and hike to Pat Springs Camp. It is about 8 miles in and 2000 ft elevation gain. There is potable water there year round but be sure to take a filter.
  • Notes: I used my little, light Sony Alpha NEX-3 and the built in HDR feature to capture this wonderful sunset with all the detail in the tree, backside of the hill and golden grasses as well as the beautiful, smooth sky and flare from the sun. October 22, 2011
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Gear: Sony Alpha Nex-3 18x55
