I arrived at the Shiprock formation in New Mexico shortly before sunset. The sky wasn't very interesting but I thought I'd hang around for a while just for kicks. There were several forest fires burning in the state and Arizona, so I thought maybe the sky might color up post sunset. Boy, did it ever! I really like the simplicity of this shot and the very distinctive shape of the Shiprock in silhouette. This formation is very sacred to the native Americans in the area.
