A group of Canadian geese take flight on the oxbow bend of the Snake River. I had just moved down to the river's edge and was setting up to take some landscapes when this group of geese (I'm not sure six birds constitute a flock) took flight low off the water to my right. I guessed I only had about ten seconds before the birds would be by me and gone, so I raised my camera, made a quick adjustment, and fired a handful of shots. The hardest thing was resisting the impulse to zoom in tight, but I knew I wanted to see more than just the birds. I wanted the cloud draped mountains, the glowing foliage, and the mirrored water. I was lucky the geese came by and made a perfect focal point for this stunning setting.
