It is quite a hike to reach this hidden spot, high above the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. Travel up Rocky Creek for a few miles, in the Spring, for the best viewing. This is not a hike for someone afraid of heights, for parts of the trail are cut into rocky cliffs, where you must hold onto a cable, anchored into the rock for safety. When you see the "official" view of the falls from above, back-track on the trail about 1/4 of a mile, to take a steep path down to the water. At the bottom, go upstream until you are met with a cliff face, blocking your path. Then walk out into the center of the ice cold creek. You can then see around the corner, and are met with this breath-taking, post-card-like view of Punchbowl Falls. It is well worth the trek!
