From the Alaska Highway east of Teslin Lake, pull off on an unmarked and unmaintained road and follow it to the north as it climbs through the boreal forest.
After a long day of travelling through the Yukon, we pulled off the Alaska Highway, pitched our tent and cooked dinner over a small campfire. As we were getting ready to retire for the evening a flicker of light in the sky caught my eye. So much for sleep! I photographed the spectacle for several hours until, as suddenly as it had appeared, the aurora faded away.
The autumn of 2011 saw almost unprecedented aurora borealis activity across the northern reaches of North America. The northern lights danced and undulated across the sky night after night, making sleep hard to come by!
