Notes

Usually pictured from the side in order to show the geologic formations, I chose instead to highlight the cultural significance by capturing this show of a local elder instructing the youth from our orphanage in the story of the "Stone of the First Wife" which tells of how a married man fell so in love with the rock formation that he began spending more and more time at the rocks. When asked where her husband was, her wife took to replying, "With his first wife." If you go to visit, please expect to have some of the locals perform a dance for you... (I recommend joining in!) and that there is no such thing as a free lunch!

Description

Kit-Mikayi Rock, (or Kitmikayi) is a sacred site to the Luo Tribe. A place of sacrifice and pilgrimage it is a towering formation of naturally stacked rocks.
