Description

This is a photo of a female Frigatebird in the Galapagos archipelago, Ecuador. As our cruise ship departed Santa Cruz island, a flock of Frigates followed the ship, and at times, some would veer away from the flock and overtake the ship with lightning speed - too fast for me to take a crisp, focused shot from the deck. Then, after 30 minutes, this particular Frigate flew close enough to the side of the boat, and at the same speed. Finally, I had my moment - a shot of the beautiful bird gliding effortlessly, displaying what is known to be the largest wingspan-to-body-weight ratio of any bird on the planet.
