The Rarest Light

  • Title: The Rarest Light
  • State/Province/Region: New Mexico
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Town: Shiprock
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Description: Shiprock is a sacred location to the Navajo people. However unlike other colorful southwest rock formations, it is mostly of dull black/gray colors. On a stormy morning, I witnessed the most amazing light condition I've ever encountered in my career at this location. The incredibly rich golden light totally transformed the landscape dominated by black rock formations. To further make this image unique, I found a small paddle of water on the ground because it rained the previous night, and I was able capture Shiprock with its refection on the water, which I believe very few, if any, photographers have ever had a chance to do it.
