Notes

The rhododendron bloom is quite brief and usually occurs in mid June on Grassy Ridge at Roan Mountain.

Description

My husband and I left our house shortly after 1:00 am on this June morning to drive to Roan Mountain (North Carolina-Tennessee border) for the sunrise hike to Grassy Ridge. After enjoying the sunrise (while also viewing beautiful Catawba Rhododendron), we started the hike back. I spotted this location where the rhododendron were and in full bloom and could be viewed close-up as well as at further distances.
