Beef Cow

  • Title: Beef Cow
  • State/Province/Region: Utah
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Northern Utah
  • Nearest Town: Promontory
  • Description: May 10, 1869, the rails from the east and west coasts of the United States, met for the first time near Promontory Point, Utah. Amid much celebration, The Golden Spike was driven. Nearly 150 years later, periodic commemorations bring renewed interest to the spot. Beyond the historic items, the location looks very much like it likely did in 1869. My guess is the rather barren land, near the northern end of Great Salt Lake, supports just about the same number of cattle as it might have then. Not many. My impression is it takes dedicated ranchers and cattle to have enough food through the winter. This dedicated animal is caught here in pursuit of his anticipated, and appreciated, cold meal.
