Woman’s Work

  • Title: Woman’s Work
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Ethiopia
  • Nearest Area: Omo River Delta
  • Nearest Town: Omorate
  • Brief Directions: Access via 4-wheel drive or chartered flight into a dirt strip at Omorate
  • GPS Longitude: 36
  • GPS Latitude:
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Dassenech women walk for up to 4 hours daily to collect water for their families, bath and do laundry. The fortunate aspect to their life is that the Omo River is perennial and has always been a reliable source of water. However governmental priorities to construct hydrodams and bring in cotton farming from Korea will lower water levels and displace the Dassenech indigenous villages.
