Brief Directions: East of Salt Lake City up Big Cottonwood Canyon to the big 'S' curve. Park at the trailhead and hike 3.25 miles while gaining 2700 feet in elevation.

Description: Lake Blanche in Big Cottonwood Canyon sits high above the canyon floor some 2700 feet and 3.25 miles from the trailhead. It is a very strenuous hike which requires stamina and a good headlamp for the hike out. We started our hike to Lake Blanche around 5pm in mid-July in hopes of getting a good reflection of Sundial Peak. As we arrived we were molested by a barrage of mosquitoes, but we were determined to let our cameras do their work as a late evening breeze slowly died down to allow the waters to calm and reveal what we had come for. As the time for sunset approached, we were blessed to have a collection of high cirrus clouds invade the sky from the south, filling the composition and adding a degree of flavor to the scene.
