Great Shots From The American Landscape Photo Contest

Now in its sixth week, this contest has received hundreds of amazing photos

The American Landscape 2012 Annual Photo Contest has been running for about 6 weeks, and we're excited about the entries that we've received so far at this halfway point. This is our first contest to be judged by a panel including two master professionals, a gallery director and our own editor, so the ultimate winners will be flattered to know that their photos will have been recognized by some of the best eyes in the world of outdoor photography.

The best photos generally combine an exceptional landscape with outstanding light or weather and a bit of photographic technique that celebrates the moment. From the Everglades of the East to the Tetons of the West, here is a small selection of some recent entries that have caught our attention. Of course there are some classic locations represented, like the Snake River Overlook in Wyoming's Jackson Hole, but there are also some surprising scenes of serenity from the not-so-iconic places like the swamps of Florida.

You still have time to submit your best landscape images!

Thanks to all who have entered so far and those of you who still plan to take part. We're grateful for your contributions to this contest and we look forward to seeing who are the ultimate winners in the end.
- Steve Werner & Chris Robinson
