  • Nearest Town: Kayenta, Arizona
  • Description: The Totems at Monument Valley at sunrise.
  • Brief Directions: Monument Valley straddles Utah and Arizona, and is located approximately seventeen miles north of Kayenta, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. It can also be reached by driving south from Moab, Utah. The drive is approximately 2.5-3 hours.
  • Notes: Taken approximately one minute after the sun peaked over the distant eastern horizon. The dunes and monoliths take on a brilliant red for the first few moments of sunrise. You have to act quickly as the light will quickly change and the red glow will become quickly change towards orange/yellow. A Navajo guide is required to reach this location within the park.
  • Best Season: Autumn
