Kathleen Wasselle Croft's "Wildflower Sunset" epitomizes the wildflower season. In this area, the San Francisco Peaks of Northern Arizona, wildflower season is in the summer, rather than springtime. "Wildflowers bloom with abundance after the monsoon rains come during the summer," Croft explains. "The sunflowers explode and blanket the hillside. To reach the best vantage point it is best to climb to the top of the hill. The skies become an artists palette of pinks and yellows. Flagstaff is a wonderful place to experience nature's beauty." Croft used a Nikon D800, Nikon 14-24mm lens and a Gitzo tripod and she  submitted the photo to the Wildflower Assignment, which ends tonight.

Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including AssignmentsYour Favorite Places and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage and several images from the Assignment Gallery are picked to be featured in The Best Of Assignments section in the print magazine. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.

Congrats Kathleen. I would like to think that I brought you luck by commenting on this in your FB page today, but it’s just your shear talent on catching a beautiful image!
