The BH-40 LR was designed to be as lightweight and compact as possible without sacrificing any of the functionality that makes the full-sized BH-55 the favorite ballhead of discriminating professional and avid photographers worldwide.

The BH-40 LR Pro weighs just over 1 pound (479g). It is perfect as a traveling/backpacking head for popular light to midsized gear such as 70-200mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 lenses, yet even robust enough for occasional use with full-sized 500mm f/4 lenses.

At 3.03" high, the BH-40 LR Pro is the most compact ballhead in its class but still delivers large-sized performance and features; perfectly complements Gitzo Series-1 and -2 tripods. The BH-40 LR lock lever freely clears platforms with diameters smaller than 2.7-inches (68mm); if mounted on wider platforms, the lever can be easily repositioned or "ratcheted" to lock or release.

  • 40mm ball is hollow & easily handles pro SLR bodies with medium-telephoto lenses or the occasional 500mm f/4.
  • Dual drop notches allow camera to be tilted 90 degrees over into vertical position or forward to shoot downward without repositioning the ballhead.
  • All control knobs/levers are captive and uniquely shaped to reduce confusion during the “heat of battle.”
  • Main locking lever is easily repositioned in 60° increments for convenient accessibility. Simply pull the lever outward from the body, reorient, and release; allow spring-loaded retraction feature to pull lever back into place.
  • Drag set control with laser-engraved indicator scale allows precise, highly repeatable tension adjustment for any given load if one desires constant friction on the ball.
  • Exclusive drum and symmetrical progressive band brake securely locks panning base to the body with no drifting of the image circle.
  • The BH-40 LR comes packed in its own custom cordura pouch; when ballhead is not in use, cover it with the pouch to protect it from abrasion and keep out grit/dirt. Remove head from tripod for traveling and store it in the pouch.
  • Quick-release clamps are interchangeable; use included hex key to remove/replace the hex-socket screw.
  • Body is CNC-machined from T6061 aluminum for superior strength. Body is finished with a handsome textured
    anodize plating for protection and beauty.
  • Panning base is crisply laser-engraved in 2.5° increments: ±0°-90°-0°.
  • All components are either anodized aluminum or stainless steel for
    years of corrosion-free performance in the toughest conditions.
  • Five-year warranty.
