One of the most spiritual and serene places on earth to visit is Angkor Wat, a Cambodian temple of large pyramid-like spires in a four-mile-long square structure surrounded by a moat. The "Temple Mountains," or the large structures that fill this breathtaking spot, are large towers that represent Mount Meru, the place where the Hindu gods dwell, which also are said to be the center for all spiritual and physical universes. The vast-sized temple could take days to navigate, but the beauty of the courtyards, galleries, sculptures and ornate walls beg to be photographed. There are walkways within the courtyard where you can shoot panoramas or take interior shots of the temples with ancient sculptures, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for photographers.

The Great Wall of China stretches for more than 4,000 long, and was built as a fortification to protect the Chinese empire from invaders. The North Pass, known as Badaling, is one of the three largest passes of the Great Wall, which was originally built to protect Beijing, and today is the most visited section of the wall. It went through a massive renovation in 1957 when it was opened to visitors, and today runs along the rugged terrain below. There are many places to get a great shot, including from the steps and guard forts that span miles and miles. Just take your pick.

Meter your needs
The Canon EOS 5D’s default evaluative metering system breaks the scene down into 35 zones, and works well for a great variety of situations. But the EOS 5D also includes partial, spot and center-weighted average metering. Partial reads the central 8% of the image area, spot the central 3.5% and center-weighted reads the entire area but places most of its emphasis on the central portion. Spot metering lets you read a specific portion of a scene or subject, handy for Zone System fans. For more on the EOS 5D, click here.

In the middle of the Indian Ocean lies the Maldives, an island system made up of many atolls that feature some the most beautiful tropical and underwater shots you can find in the world. At the Ari Atoll, you'll find exceptional underwater photographic opportunities like whale sharks and many other tropical species. Also along the coral reefs below the atoll, you can find the longnose hawkfish scurrying around with its distinct red and pink crosshatch pattern–one of the favorite subjects to shoot in underwater photography because of its unique look.
White balancing act
One big advantage of shooting digital images is that you can adjust the white balance for each shot when you encounter tricky lighting situations, and check the results on the LCD monitor right after shooting. Auto white balance works very well in many situations, but don’t hesitate to adjust white balance manually when AWB doesn’t give you the desired results. You can also use white balance creatively—try shooting in “cloudy” mode to add warmth to sunsets.
