Graceful Courtship On The Serengeti

  • Title: Graceful Courtship On The Serengeti
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Tanzania
  • Brief Directions: Taken early February, SE quadrant of the Serengeti Plain. I was staying at the Serengeti SOPA Lodge and this photo was taken within driving distance of this lodge.
  • Description: On my first trip to East Africa in 2001 I first saw the Glorious Crowned Cranes but couldn't get close enough on the Serengeti to take any photos as they are very skittish. When we came upon this pair of cranes that were courting near a water hole, for some reason only humans can understand, they were oblivious to our presence. They were walking back and forth towards each other and I snapped this photo just as they met, side by side. This is the national bird of Uganda.

Thank you very much, Alena! Before planning your visit, do make sure to check park hours, as this area is not open to the public year-round.

Lovely composition of greenery and water motion, Alena. I especially like the textured waterfall curtain effect you have captured.
