• Notes: Erg Chebbi is one of only two Saharan ergs, which is located in southeastern Morocco. Its distinctive ergs, (large sand dunes) can reach up to 150 meters high, and form a composite erg 22 km long (north-south) and 5 km wide. The locals believe that these dunes were sent as punishment for turning away a weary traveler from the desert, but for a landscape/travel photographer, they are for sure a blessing! After a short camel ride from my hotel to the base of the dune, followed by a long and exhausting climb to the top, I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise. The first rays of light catching the ripples of sand, bringing out the texture of the sand. I try to keep the post production work to a minimum, so all I have done to this image is remove the dust spots (I really need to clean the camera sensor more, especially in a desert environment!) and slightly increased the contrast & saturation. Apologies for the size of the image, but I have done this deliberately for several good reasons.
