Vøringfossen

  • Title: Vøringfossen
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Norway
  • Nearest Area: Hordaland
  • Nearest Town: Eidfjord
  • Brief Directions: Vøringfossen (the "Vøring" waterfall, whatever Vøring means) is located along highway 7 between Oslo and Bergen - about 1/3 the distance starting from Beergen. Maybe 15 km east of the small city/village of Eidfjord.
  • Notes: That road - highway 7 (or Riksvei 7 in Norwegian) is a beautifully sceniv road. Also the areast west of Vøringfossen holds some quite spectacular views if you take the time to explore.
  • GPS Longitude: 7.25
  • GPS Latitude: 60.43333
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Description: Vøringfossen plunges 183 meters into a ravine in Måbødalen in Hordaland in Norway. It's an impressive waterfall with lots of photo opportunities; at the top is a hotel on one side of the ravine and a car parking area and small pathways on the other. It is also accessible from the bottom (a 30 minutes walk from the road). I haven't tried that but would assume some protection for the camera might be useful due to the water spray.

Thanks Alena and David! I took a lot of shots of this landscape, but placing a person in the shot imparted the sense of amazement and exhilaration I was trying to capture. Merry Christmas!

Exhilarating photo Laura! Being in the foreground gives the viewer the sense of how vast and spectacular our earth is. The image also allows for the outdoor photographer to reflect back on times...
