Evening Storm Cloud Formations Over Ben Nevis And Nevis Range

  • Title: Evening Storm Cloud Formations Over Ben Nevis And Nevis Range
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: United Kingdom
  • Nearest Area: Glen Nevis
  • Nearest Town: Fort William
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Description: In a late summer afternoon clouds began to gather over Ben Nevis and Nevis Range. Weather was really nice so I hiked to the top of the hill called 'Cow Hill' hoping to get some nice views and shots from Glen Nevis and Ben Nevis. I wasn't dissapointed at all. Halfway to the top of the hill sky already looked pretty dramatic, sun was slowly setting down and the massive cloud formation was still growing so I rushed myself to get there before the sun disappear behind the mountains. When I finally got to the top the views were truly awesome! Heavy clouds lit by setting sun had this yellow/orange tone and it looked like a big volcanic erruption over the Nevis Range (in fact Ben Nevis is a remain of ancient volcano). I took several shots and also created this panoramic shot so I could show as much of the scene as possible. The final photograph is made of 6 vertical shots stitched together, I used RAW format, tripod and CPL filter. It was one of those very memorable moments...
