Gullfoss Overlook

  • Title: Gullfoss Overlook
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Iceland
  • Nearest Area: Route 35
  • Nearest Town: Reykjavik
  • Brief Directions: On the "Golden Circle" route, take route 35 to Gullfoss.
  • Notes: While summer is a popular time to visit Iceland, winters are relatively mild and the crowds are gone. Snow on the ground provides interest and contrast to this familiar scenic location. If you don't take one of the tour buses there you will most likely need to rent a 4WD vehicle. Be sure to bring rain gear for yourself and equipment. There are two main paths, one that goes down to the top of the falls and another which follows the upper rim and gives wider views. Wear good waterproof boots and step carefully! The icy trails can be treacherous.
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Gear: Tripod, grad ND filters, rain cover

Thank you kindly Laura! It's an area I really enjoy photographing called "Rim Of The World"! I enjoyed your gallery also, with the beautiful images of La Jolla Reefs/North County~ Love that area!!!

Thanks Alena and David! I took a lot of shots of this landscape, but placing a person in the shot imparted the sense of amazement and exhilaration I was trying to capture. Merry Christmas!
