Eng Valley

  • Title: Eng Valley
  • State/Province/Region:
  • Country: Germany
  • Nearest Area: B 307
  • Nearest Town: Lenggries
  • Brief Directions: The place I am mostly fascinated is a tiny valley located at the Austrian/German border. Strange on this place is that it is belonging to Austria but is accessible from Germany only. The single road to enter stretches around 25 km from Hinterriss to the endpoint the Engalm. The road is winding along the Engergrund creek and later the Riss creek, providing quite often a great outlook and climbing from 800 m sea level to to nearly 1300 m sea level. The most known attraction here is the Grosse Ahornboden, a forest of Maple trees that is unique in this size and location. For centuries these trees are growing here, a consequence of cattlefarming still done here. Best time to visit is early october for autumn impressions and in may for late spring. To go there follow Bundesstr. 13 from Lenggries in Germany to Achenkirch (Austria). Around halfway turn right directly before the Sylvenstein reservoir and follow the signs to Hinterriss and then Vorderriss. Then just follow the road.
  • Notes: Be there very early because there are many tourists entering from 10 o´clock am until 5 o´clock pm. When the hords are gone it is an awesome place you will enjoy.
  • Best Season: Autumn
