Winter Setting In

  • Title: Winter Setting In
  • State/Province/Region: Oregon
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Wallowa County
  • Nearest Town: Imnaha
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Description: Many people think of Utah and Arizona for canyon country. Oregon and Idaho also have very impressive canyons, the Snake River forming the deepest in North America. This canyon is a close neighbor to the Snake. Fog and snow made it quite appealing to photograph this day. This place is called Big Sheep Creek named after the Big Horns that used to roam its slopes. The Big Horns disappeared when the area was settled 100 years ago and domesticated sheep were brought in carrying diseases with them. Cattle graze here now. We're hoping the Big Horns make a comeback.
