Dunes At Sunset

  • Title: Dunes At Sunset
  • State/Province/Region: Texas
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Texas Gulf Coast
  • Nearest Town: Corpus Christi
  • Brief Directions: From Corpus Christi take Highway 358 South to Park Road 22. Follow Park Road 22 to the entrance.
  • Notes: The Bird Island Recreation Area is a great place to relax and catch a sunset over the Laguna Madre. While driving the park entrance road one day I noticed a large dune field in the distance. I wondered how difficult it might be to reach the dunes and found out a few days later that a 20 minute slog through the bayside marsh from Bird Island did the trick. I made several trips across the marsh and found some great photo opportunities with the dunes in the foreground and the Laguna Madre in the background.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Padre Island National Seashore is a gem along the Texas Gulf Coast. 63 miles of protected barrier island and the Laguna Madre are highlights of this park.
  • Gear: Pentax 67-105mm lens-bogen 3036 tripod

Very nice set of "Arches" Stephen. Wasn't sure, but thought someone said one of the famous landmarks fell? Really enjoyed the "Double Windows" when there!

That moose is a "spike" i.e. a very young juvenile, probably on his first year away from mom. His antler's will fill out further in the next few years.

Very interesting post Donna and Mike on Moose/Antlers. Not sure what may have caused the change in antlers, but pretty sure the one will end up looking like one of these in a few years.
