  • Title: Big Blackfoot River
  • State/Province/Region: Montana
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Johnsrud State park
  • Nearest Town: Potomac
  • Brief Directions: Approx. 15 miles east of Missoula, Montana along Highway 200 East. Turn due north on the access road to Johnsrud State park.
  • Notes: Summer is best time to capture the mist rising off the cold mountain waters. The days are long at this latitude, be prepared to set up before sunrise.
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Description: early morning mist rising from the cold waters of the Big Blackfoot. This location is just southeast of the Rattlesnake Range, allowing the first rays of sun to peek into the valley. The Blackfoot is mostly undeveloped as you travel east of Bonner, with an occasional log home. As you leave Hgwy 200 and take the gravel access road the conmposition opportunities are numerous.
